The first earthlove post of 2025. I’ve questioned whether to build this blog and community, and asked questions like “how many subscribers to make it worth it?”. Then yesterday, I found myself on a hike in the beautiful nature of West Marin and my head cleared (as tends to happen) and I realized that it’s not about the subscribers, marketing plan, or recognition. There are certainly important times for all of these things, but this passion project is, gratefully, not one of them.
earthlove is having a deep love of the earth. Simple as that. And today, more than ever before, I believe cultivating and sharing this deep love with one another is a wonderful, and quite important, thing to do. So, we continue forward.
We will learn, wonder, appreciate, question, and think together about what it means to love the earth, and in turn, ourselves. I’ll share interviews with wonderful people who are taking their deep love of the earth and doing great things in the world. These interviews will range from well-known individuals who have cultivated dedicated followings, to those who are not known on a large stage, but who will inspire you greatly nonetheless. We could all use some inspiration right now, don’t you think?
After all, it’s a chaotic time - the crazy, upside down world of politics, the noisy & loud internet, the visceral fear of a changing climate, and the disconnection from the very things that make us human. There are certainly many reasons to worry these days. But a wise person once said that worrying is worshipping the problem. Hmm. Well, I’m not sure about you, but I want to spend less time worrying and more time… Outside, in appreciative silence or solitude, basking in morning sun, laughing with loved ones, enjoying delicious food, building caring community, listening deeply, learning and reading (which seem to go hand in hand), growing (daily), hugging animals, and simply experiencing my beautiful life. The one that’s unfolding right now, right in front of me.
Also, and this is an important one, continuing to create deliberate time away from digital devices. Which ties into a decision I’ve made - there will be no social media for earthlove. No Instagram or TikTok, X or Facebook. Just the simple and lovely form of substack, with potential for a podcast later on. This aligns with my desire to create a focused and clear place of authenticity. Hopefully, those reading have a similar desire.
I will be posting once every week, and will soon have stories to share from all kinds of interesting, unique, humans who are gracious enough to be among the first earthlove guests.
Until then, please go outside. Preferably without your phone. Breath in the fresh air, fill up a bird feeder, maybe run through a forest or skip down the block or yell or sing under the big sky that holds all of us together. Nature is the antidote. Remember that!

3 earthlove musings I am grateful for today:
- Our corn plant is blooming! Corn plants can flower in certain seasons, when they’re quite happy, and the smell of the small white flowers makes me quite happy in return.
- Fresh, crisp, air that comes from winter rain. Mmm. Take a deep breath.
- Morning sun, lighting up my face, the house… the world! This may be my favorite simple pleasure. If you can, take a few minutes to greet the sun, greeting the day.
A favorite hike, with rain coming or going.
Well said, Mimi! Love your writing voice ❤️ Can’t wait to read your thoughts to come
